Dutch Design’s Sea Rover Project Puts Wellness First

First up is Dutch Design’s new yacht concept, The Sea Rover. The studio, founded by Scott Blum and naval designer Bernd Weel, makes its debut with this project, which splices together ‘decades of personal yachting experience and a passion for mindfulness’ to create the ‘world’s only wellness-first yacht.’

Most high-end yachts aren’t exactly lacking in amenities, from infinity pools to onboard spas and treatment rooms. Where Dutch Design are different is their emphasis on tranquillity and refinement, as opposed to all-out immersion in luxury. That’s not to say the Sea Rover is small. At 42.5 metres (140-foot), it easily qualifies for the ‘superyacht’ label, but the designers are hoping to compress the ‘grandeur of a 300-foot mega yacht in a far more compact size.’

Hitting a series of new milestones, the Dutch Design firm’s Sea Rover Project is on track for an April 2028 delivery. The wellness-focused design just completed the installation of its aluminum superstructure atop the steel hull. Full scale mockup evaluations continue, while interior production and engineering development progress, moving forward on the lifestyle at sea vision held by the lifelong yachtsman and owner, Scott Blum. Blum founded the innovative Amsterdam marine studio, Dutch Design, posting Dutch designer Bernd Weel at the head of the operation, with engineering for Sea Rover by the Diana Yacht Design team.

Created by Weel, the build began in September 2025. Technical project manager Julian van Santen was selected for day-to-day oversight of technical installations in keeping with meticulous superyacht standards quality within the Dutch superyacht industry. A recent inspection of the overall construction process, including steelwork, was performed by Monaco’s ACP marine surveying firm.

Without a single remark, the ACP report points to the impeccable nature of Sea Rover’s build. ACP, who has been engaged with the project from the beginning, commented that the project has been aligned with the highest expectations regarding steelwork and build progress. Welded into the hull, a 1949 Dutch coin honoring the 50th anniversary of the Marshall Plan, along with a newspaper, act as markers to symbolize both Dutch and American identity.

Luxury and Comfort With A Wellness Purpose

Interiors are also moving forward nicely, benefiting from collaborative efforts with California designer Paula Bruss. Dovetailing luxury with comfort, with an emphasis on wellness, the organic palette of materials embraces Dutch minimalistic design, taking cues from coastal California’s relaxed sophistication. Pale white oak floors and walls combine with hues of soothing cream, sand, mocha and carbon, reflecting a peaceful palette.

Performance factors purposefully into the mix using soft, durable outdoor marine fabrics from Loro Piana, luxurious marine-grade leathers from Moore & Giles, sculptural plumbing fixtures from Dornbracht, and architectural hardware from Joseph Giles.

Exteriors defined by the vertical bow and midship arch, lines are clean and simple. Interiors designed to honor movement, breath, and stillness in the practice of Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, stretching, and barre exercise are light and airy. The full spa gives a nod to sauna, ice bath, hot bath, massage, and infrared light therapy, attends to wellness.

An Active And Engaged Lifestyle At Sea

On the beach club, folding platforms reveal a 270-degree view, making dining, sunning, and relaxing a pleasure, while serving as a space to launch water sports activities. Whether wellness, water sports, or simply seeking a quiet respite, Sea Rover seems a brilliant choice for wide variety of owners and guests.

The fully equipped gym features equipment by PENT, featuring the SCALA™ Fitness Wall Bar, BANKA™ Weight Bench, IRENA™ Manual Treadmill, VISLA™ Rowing Machine, HANIA™ Bicycles, PX50™ Pilates Reformer, LINA-SET™ Battle Rop, and OCEANIA™ Dumbbell Rack. Additionally, guests will find kettlebells, fitness balls, and yoga mats secured for sea travel but easily accessible for workouts. Sport court activities include basketball, pickleball, volleyball, paddle tennis, and outdoor fitness training. Guests wishing to take part in watersports may choose from waterskiing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, jet skiing, paddle boarding, kitesurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or fishing. A capable tow boat for watersports is also on board.

The sun deck is accessed by a port side stair, with a table whose top gives a view of the central architectural glass staircase below, surrounded on two sides by a large sofa. Flooding the space with natural light, the central stair provides access to all decks below. Perfect for a sun deck sundowner, a jacuzzi, wet bar, BBQ area, and dining space, framed by the arch, are all within easy conversational reach of the sofa. Spacious, yet intimate. Private, yet open to the sea, the sun deck offers sun or shade, day or night, with a 360-degree view of the sea.

Dutch Design's Sea Rover By The Numbers

Sea Rover is designed to accommodate twelve guests in five cabins, with two VIP suites and two twin suites on the lower deck and a main deck owner’s suite fully forward. An exclusive partner with Dutch Design, the yacht will feature mattresses by the heritage bedmaker Savoir, contributing to the wellness focus by providing a good night’s sleep. Guests are served by a crew of nine in four crew cabins.

The hull measures 140 feet/42.40 meters with a beam of 29.2 feet/8.9 meters and a draft of 8.4 feet/2.55 meters. Sea Rover has a range of 3716 nautical miles at 10 knots with a cruise speed of 12 knots and a maximum of 14.3 knots. For a 140-foot hull, Sea Rover tucks an impressive number of amenities and features on board. It’s no wonder it has caught the eye of so many in search of both a five-star spa and a calm, peaceful respite at sea.
